OK, so I'm going to look at this '88 Ranger, however, the guy says he lost the key for it. And considering it's been sitting in his yard for over a year, I'd kinda like to know if it even starts and runs before I try towing it away. So my question is, how would I fire it up without the key? I'll still have to get around the wheel lock if I want to drive it, but that's assuming it even runs.

Take the VIN to the dealer and they should be able to cut you a key for it.

You're not gonna get that information on here. A bunch of Rangers wouldn't want to make it easier to get their trucks stolen.

an 88 is to old for a dealer to cut a key from the vin. the only way i know causes damage

Cut the red wire and the black wire, and connect them together.

Not really, I have no clue. That's just how the hot wired the mustang in a movie I saw. :icon_thumby:

If you can get the lock cylinder out, you could just use a screwdriver untill you can get a new lock cylider/key. Other wise you'd have pull the ignition switch and splice some wires.

Turns out it didn't matter anyway...ignition cylinder lock was busted, so all I had to do was turn it (no key) and away it went. Makes it easy to replace with a new one too.
