Hot Engine / Won't Start or Rough Idle


I'm not going to read through all the posts.. But did anyone suggest a Fuel Pressure Regulator? Flooding the engine when it is first shutoff, but after letting it sit, the fuel dries up and it fires like nobody's business.

I also had a CTS (coolant temp sensor) cause the same thing on my 2.9L, except I had a high idle along with it.
 
no theres no map sensor on mine...
and i myself had a vaccum leak fixed it and still no fix.i did a smoke test on it and fixed all leaks.

now i have not checked fuel pressure regulator or the cts..
is there anyway to test these parts??

Pull the vacuum line on the FPR and check for raw fuel inside it.
 
ok wasnt sure if there was anything else..nope so not the fuel pressure regulator.
 
The best way to test the FPR is with a Fuel Pressure gage installed, remove the vaccum hose from the FPR. Fuel pressure should increase about 8 psi.
 
Didn't you say you previously had your vacuum leak fixed?

I had a problem with the intake manifold gasket. It had a hole in it. The gasket has been replaced.

I still have the problem though. I've not been driving the truck as much lately so the problem hasn't been bothering me. I'd like to figure it out though.
 
Wouldn't happen to be ignition control module would it? I know that thing can cause all kinds of strange stuff, and great thing is it's testable. Just be sure the place runs the test 2 or 3 times to get it warm.

Chances are it's not causing it to run lean, but could be a combination since it happens when engine heats up.
 
I've been getting a code every day for the last several days.

118 (O,M) ECT sensor is/was high or open - ECT

According to my Haynes manual, it says a code 118 is:
118 - Coolant Temperature sensor circuit above maximum voltage/indicates below -40 degrees F

Now, if the computer doesn't know the actual engine temperature - could this be causing my lean condition?

Could this also be causing the vapor lock symptoms that I've been experiencing?
 
how about a clogged cat would it be possible that this is causing the issue???
 
this sucks man, my trucks doing the exact same thing a few times a week, really ticks me off, other then that it runs just great, dam near the same exact thing though. i first though it was because of starting it with the ac on or something but that doesnt matter, it just sputters and cuts out after its been drivin and sat for only a bit, man i really hope you fix yours maybe its the same thing as mine.
 
I called the auto parts store and they're asking me which sensor it is that I want to buy. They're saying there is one for the gauge and one for the fan.

The guy got me all confused as to which one I need. I'm assuming I need the one for the gauge, right? Thats the one that the computer uses to tell the temperature of the engine?

If someone could clarify this for me, I'd appreciate it. I'd hate to buy the wrong part, tear my engine down and realize is the wrong damn piece.

I had a CTS go out on my 1989 and the damn thing would flood out and not start if it didn't sit for over an hour to let the raw fuel evaporate out of the cylinder.

IN short, YES, it will definatly cause this issue.

Mine caused a high idle, and like I said, a hard starting when warm issue.
