I'm watching Horsepower TV right now, and they're building a 2.3L 4-cylinder from a later 90's Ford Ranger.

Tune in....

268 horsepower. Carb, no forced induction.

I like it when they build things other than the common v8's. They should do inline motors more often. Also I wish they would discuss cost, they show you all of of but no cost.

Sent from, wait how did this get here?

I was wondering if anyone would post this. It was pretty cool to see them do work on a little Lima.now I want one!

thats more power than my 2.3t makes :bawling:

I would say that little bastard is just as expensive as a crate V8. Hell a Jasper 2.3 will cost ya $1500-$2000

I watched it earlier. Was sad they used almost no factory parts. It was all after special cast aftermarket parts. They used almost no stock stuff.

Thats an $8,000 engine that will turn 8k RPM all day. Also, substitute the flat top pistons they put in it for dished pistons and you could boost that engine to probably 600-700 HP no problem.

Correction $11,000 They used an Esslinger block

I was impressed that they ran bone stock rockers with mouse traps against all that high dollar stuff

The stock roller rockers are very strong, they were designed for racing before the roller cam was put in a street car. Hence the reason they have the mousetrap spring provision. Esslinger sells a bigger cam than they used too. That build they did is almost EXACTLY what i want to do for my ranger, but it doesnt have enough torque,

yeah, i found the 200# of torque a little underwhelming,lol... they need now to build a turbo version of that...

Esslinger will ship you a 1000HP 3.0T stroker lima engine if you call them with a huge chunk of change to spend.

That thing has low torque because of the cam they used, its meant for nothing but HIGH RPM POWER!!!! haha
