Hey guys,

This site and its forums have already been incredibly helpful in the buying process, so thank you and nice to meet you all!

I've been scouring craigslist for a few months now, biding my time before snatching up a 4x4 manual Ranger. I don't intend to use the truck as a daily driver; I cycle most places during my day-to-day. Thusly, my Ranger will be for trips into the boonies, off-road ripping, and mountain bike shuttling. It will be my only vehicle, so it'll have to get me around town and do some long distance trips, but I'm more focused on off-road capability and access to back-country.

I think I'm most interested in a 1991-1997 4.0L 4×4, but am open to any 4x4 manual really. I recently found this ad for a 1993 Ford Ranger and despite having 255k, $1800 CAD seems quite reasonable. I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow. I work at a small custom composite shop, so my boss and I are planning to put a fiberglass body on the chassis and do a lift/suspension kit ourselves. With that in mind, I'm not concerned about the faded paint or any cosmetic blemishes. I just want a solid frame and internals to build upon.

Let me know what you think, I'm happy to receive any advice or thoughts. Can't wait to be a Ranger owner!

Cheers,
Max

1993 Rangers are great, go for it! If the 4.0L has been taken care of, itll last a lot longer. Hopefully the interior is in good condition. Either way bargain for lower.

Hi, and welcome to TRS.
255,000 is getting up there, but is acceptable. Be prepared to do brakes, front end components, maybe electrical gremlins if someone has been into the wiring.
The ranger is very capable stock. Unless you're going for looks, try without the lift first and maybe save a bit of money.

Thanks for the comments and welcome!

Do you all have any suggestions for reputable brands that offer ranger suspension kits? I'm not sure what I want at the moment but want to begin searching with quality manufacturers.

Just stay away from amazon cheapos.
