If I was you. I would go with a 4 link, and if you go with a 4 link then only the width really matters on the 8.8 because you have to take off all the mounting stuff anyway. With a 4 link and some decent drag radials you should hook up rather well. There is a dude on youtube with a 4 link ranger running like 10.5 BFG drag radials running 12.85 w/ 240hp ish to the rear wheels... Thats not bad. If you really wanted to shorten the wheel base... you could probably cut the frame behind the cab, and weld in new frame wheels with a arch where the wheels / axel would sit... then modify the bed from there...
