Howdy yall.

I must have jammed the hood shutting it.

What do yall do to open it?

Pulling the cable does nothing, just a little give and nothing.

Can I remove the latch or something through the grill or from underneath?

Thanks

Yes. You have to reach up with something, behind the grill and all the way up to the latch, and pull the cable. My hood latch cable broke several years ago, at around the battery. I just dropped the front section , of the cable, down to where I can grab it, behind the bumper. Tied a little kids toy to it to keep it from flopping around. Now i just reach under the bumper and pull the cable down to open my hood.

have a buddy pushing down on the hood as u pull the cable, if it works, lube everything before closing it again.

Plus, if that works, you may need to lower the bump stops at the front corners of your hood. They might be putting too much pressure on the hood.

I appreciate the responses.

I jammed it real good. No wiggle room to push down and I can pull on the cable until I feel like its about to break.

Switching gears.

What I really need to do is reset my battery. I was working on my ignition interrupt when I jammed the hood shut.
Any ideas on that with the hood being stuck closed?
Then I can drive it to my buddies or a shop if need be.

If worse case, a 1/4" ratchet, extension, and maybe a universal joint to remove the latch from the rad support.

You realize your post has us all going out and lubing our latches real good so we don't end up with the same problem.

'Scuse me. Gotta go do something in the garage real quick.

I lube mine with white lithium grease every spring and fall. Over kill? Probably. But I’ve never had a hood unlatching issue either.

It doesn't sound like your problem, but I had this happen to me while in the wilderness for a couple weeks. I could pull on the hood release and nothing would happen. After working with it a little I realized the bump stops had worked their way down. When I pulled the cable the hood had no tension to pop up to release. I asked someone to push up on my hood while I pull the hood release and it came up. I then adjusted the bump stops up and the hood release worked normally again.

Mine was the spring. Found a replacement at Ace, of all places.

You tripped the main latch and shut it and now the secondary(hand latch) is holding it.

I did this once on my F250....its a royal bitch, removing the latch assy from the core support is the only option.
