I need to change the lower balljoint on my daughters 2000 crv. According to the haynes manual, loosen driveshaft nut, remove wheel and a few other parts. take it to a shop as it requires special tools, stupid manual. Since when has my 18 pound sledge hammer not been the universal special tool for changing balljoints on anything? or am I missing something here?

Well that went well. My 18 pound sledge must be the special tool judging how well it worked. I do have another question though, I had to also change a tie-rod end and the spec for the alignment is not in the haynes manual (stupid useless book) so I had to take a guess. Perhaps someone on here knows what the toe setting should be.

If you take the tie rod end off you pretty much need to get it on an alignment rack after you are done. Haynes isn't gonna have any alignment specs. Try the alignment shop.

on a fwd vehicle it should have exactly even toe or maybe just a hair toe out. you can get it pretty close with a tape measure.
