Built this akward muffler for my friends 90 Ranger in a evening. 1/4" oil well pipe that is 9" tall, 5" long. A piece of plate with a octagon shaped 3" by 4 1/2" hole cut in it is welded in the middle. The inlet enters at the bottom of this plate. In the hole is a "wingplate" baffle. Shaped like this >. Then there is two outlets at each end of the wingplate. Built out of scrap with a cutting torch and stick welder.

The two duals run out and up the bedside. Pretty loud, but not obnoxious. You can roll the passenger side window up and eliminate 75% of the sound and hold a conversation inside. No resonance thanks to the thick case.

For a little 2.9, I think it sounds pretty good. No buzzing, popping, or gutless wheeze. Better than the hack-job 2" exhaust with a F-250 muffler dangling near the rear axle.
