First I have NO experience off-roading but am mechanically good [drag raced years ago-street] I was installing new front diff [4-10's] in my '85 b-2 and decided to make it a l/s instead of welding the spiders [ the guy at The Gear Center suggested welding as I could unlock the hubs]. It's driven on and offroad. So what I did was add an extra thrust? washer from the old diff to the new one [ large thin washer / not curved]. I did this to a 9" years ago and it worked fine for many miles, never did break any thing [ tho it did have 4 spiders , not 2]. Any comments, observations welcomed. I like learning and trying new stuff on the cheap. I also did the c-clip eliminator as suggested in tech BUT I put a 1" OD by 1 3/8" long plus 1/8 washer INSIDE the female shaft. comments, suggestions welcomed.

I have heard of that before, bought a 9" from a friend he said that was his easy solution to the L/S. Never got to see how it worked

reviving the dead! but i did this to my front 44 and it works. at least in the snow. I had never heard of it before but an old timer was tellin me he used to do it back in the day so i figured what the heck. I CAN say it was a P.I.T.A to get everything together but it did go.

I'm still running the same d-28 with 4.10 and 31x8.5/15", no problems.
