So I am going to be getting a Truck Avenger Carb for my BII ... just not sure which CFM to get.. 470 or 670.. It's a big jump...The 470 seems to be the closest one or correct one to go with... (according to the calculation of 302 X 5500rpm / 3456), but I have heard some people say that Holley does not recommend the 470 for a 302. At the same time I dont want to overcarb with the 670..

I have a stock 302 with an edelbrock performer intake and a ford explorer cam shaft. I plan to drive alot on the street, and wheel occasionally on weekends..

What have some of you ran 470 vs 670? and what would you suggest the better fit be for my application.

I would say 470 would be a lot better.

I'd go with the 470 also. I had a 450 (?) spread bore on a stock 302 and ran just great for a DD.

At 5500 RPM your 302 can only use 480 cfm. That's also at 100% volumetric efficiency, which no naturally aspirated engine runs at. The 470 would definitely be the wiser choice, and will give you awesome off idle throttle response.

Go with the 470. The reason you want to err on the small side is carbs need a good vacuum signal for function. The vacuum is what pulls the fuel from the bowls, it's not fuel injection where it's pumped into the air stream. A smaller carb will see a stronger vacuum than a bigger one and function better. The only time you want to max out on size is when you're building a race only motor.

sounds like it will be the 470 :yahoo:
