I rebuilt my holley 600 i got the float levels correct etc i had this issue before the rebuild i can back up enough in my driveway and take off in the foward direction and press the brakes hard and the engine shutters and shuts off like it ran out of gas same as if i hit the edge on my drive way just a small lip and my front end bounces a little it shuts off well i checked out the holley website and looked into common questions and found out that my accelerator pump is bad or the spring ajustment isnt correct well i worked with that and still have the same issue could any one give me an idea other than just buying a new carb what my problem could be

do yourself a favor and just buy an edelbrock 600cfm carb. no fuss no muss ready to go outta the box. holleys can be trouble some. i recommend the 1406 from edelbrock.

i just re-read the post, sorry jumped the gun. take the carb apart and clean all the venturies and all the ports. sound like you have a piece of dirt in the carb somewhere

wiggle the wiring under the hood with the engine running.......and......put it in nuetral--emergency brake on---engine running.....jump updown like a gorilla on the front bumper with the hood open---see what happens....and if it's an automatic.....the electric solenoid on the side of the xmsn or the connector could be bad causing the torque converter to lock up making the engine act like it's running out of gas until it stalls/dies...
(some of the problems I've had with my '89 Ranger)...OR....none of the above......

also thanks for the replies i am going to tear the carb down tommorow and dip it in parts cleaner and rebuilt it again and start all over but feel free to post more TRYS lol

Your problem isn't enough fuel, it's too much fuel. You're dealing with a fuel slosh issue here. Holley makes baffles to cure this problem. The fuel in the bowl is sloshing hard enough to run up into and out the vent tubes in the throttle bore, thereby flooding the engine. The stock Hollleys had a brass baffle to control it, this little piece gets left off many when rebuilt. They also had a long flat plastic tube that fit in it's place to extend the opening back toward the bowl front.

Do you have power brakes ?
How's the vacuum ?
Might be low vacuum when the brakes are applied and it pulls all of the vacuum from the engine.

Sorry BUT there is the old adage "DON"T rebuild a Holley".

OK if so how do i fix this problem does that mean vacuum leak or check valve on power booster is bad or could i hook the booster directly to engine vac instead of carb vac would that hurt anything>/
