so ive decided to hold off on rockers, and bumpers for the 89....but my friend eric said i should try to see if stock xj roof racks would fit a ranger, if they do i could make a light bar out of them. good idea or bad? if it would work id be willing to write a tech artical with pics:icon_welder:

i've seen a roof rack on a newer ranger with lights, and i think it looks awesome, would probably do it to mine if i had the dough

As long as the rack is shorter then the Ranger cab, then it would look just fine. Then it would just be a matter of making your own mounts to go on/ through the roof. Or, depending on the way they would mount to the XJ, you could just use those. I think it would pre pretty easy with maybe a small amount of fabbing in the mount.

Are your fabbing skills lacking or something? You said you were holding off rockers and bumpers, I assumed that meant that you were building them which meant you had good fabbing skills.

im still learning....my dad teaches me when he can, but hes been working to keep bills from falling bhind. so im not to mad. i can do a bit of fabbing but the real hard stuff he shows me how to do.

You could use gutter mounts like a Tule skirack uses then fab the rack and light bar around that. Saw some at Pull n Save last week on Cherokees, if you dont mind having Jeep parts on your Ford......
You could build it to look like a GoRhino roof rack with lights in front.......
That was my plan but gotta wait till lifted to see if it will still fit in my garage..........
Very Cool!!

I am doing that with my truck on my shell but the only place in town that carrys aluminum has to order it so it won't be here for awhile and i need to get the suff to get my welder to weld aluminum..

That would look pretty sweet though.

glad to see im not the only one with that idea:D

Hey, PaleBlue, checkout Craigslist- auto parts - explorer, guy in Broomfield selling exactly what you are planning- with lights, you'd probly have :yahoo:to shorten it, but easier than building a whole new one- good price, too, $275, tho too much for me but..........

if you do get one, expect more wind resistance and a noticeable decrease in power/gas mileage

i woudlnt put anything heavy up there either
