I have a chance for a 96 2wd single cab auto auto 3.0 ranger with a bad engine for 500$. I'm debating on it.

I'd go for it depend on the shape it's in and the miles on chassis. For $500, you can sure do a lot with it. Thanks for the suggestion of another brew, this is Wisconsin and it's nice out!

do it and sawp in another 3.0 good gas mileage being it is 2wd!!

Deal is done. It's an old fleet truck I work on. It's a base model, bit it's decently clean and I just rebuilt the trans and rearend 1 yr ago or so.

The question is used engine for about 750-950 or reman ford w/ 3 yr 100K for about 1200.........

If thats the cheapest you can get that engine for i say go with the reman for an extra 250$... my 2 cents though!

If those are really the only two options, I tend to agree. Sounds like a LOT for a used engine though. Look around the junkyards - you can probably find one in a wrecked truck for less.

I'm sure I could if I pulled it, but I run my own auto repair shop and am the "lead" tech. I don't have time to. The prices I qouted are for engines with less than 40K on them have been run tested for oil pressure, warm compression, and such and have a year warranty from the junk yard.

That's a horse of a different color, didn't realize you were looking at engines with that kind of low mileage, etc... $750 for that sounds like an excellent deal if they're pulling it and handing it to you ready to go.

Man I guess I got lucky last fall when I replaced my 3.0 with one that had 43k miles for $300 and got a bunch of other goodies with it. Got it from another member on here.:yahoo:
