Hitches for rangers.

So I've decided to look for a hitch my ranger. It's a 98,ext cab,4wd.

I can get a hitch at the u pull it yard for 15 bucks. I couldn't find a single one on a ranger but a few on explorers. It looked like most of them were mounted differently.

Any idea what year range explorers,if any,would fit on my ranger.

Explorer ones are completely different. Any ranger one would work

I have a front and rear 2 inch receiver hitch mounted on my 99 Ranger. I got them new on Ebay with free shipping. Most of the ones I saw in scrap yards I would not buy. They need to be bead blasted and painted and I like powder coating since it last so long. They were easy to install and on my front receiver I also welded it in place besides bolting it one so it will never come off or break.
The Exploder one might fit...but try to fit it in place before you buy it from the scrape yard...they should let you do that. Don't get one with any rust (unless it is surface rust).

I never measured one but a few years back one of my buddies mounted his 97Exploder hitch to his 2002 Ranger. He welding it on anyways. He said it fit and I saw it after he did it and it looked great. Like I told him, if he wanted the Exploder one fit it up to the frame first before he buys it from the scrap yard.

Went to another yard today. After looking at 30 or so rangers and b series truck. I found one,at the end of the yard.

Couldn't get any of the bolt loose and they wanted 20 bucks to cut it off. Not bad as the hitch is 15. I didn't bring that much cash so I went home empty handed.


I'll find one another day.

While SOME receiver hitches will fit all year Rangers, there are some differences in the rear frame on the 1998-up Rangers dealing with the ability of the frame to fit the larger diameter stock tires fitted to the later trucks.

With some hitch designs this creates a conflict.

The Drawtite hitch off my 1987 will mount to my 1993, but NOT to the 2001 frame I have in my Yard.
