Okay, So sorry. I didn't see a good place to post this. I looked at the exteriors forum but decided to post here. My gf's 2001 Ford escape was hit. I have posted photos. the damage isnt to bad. I have no experience in body work but am willing to give it a shot. I want to push out the damage as best I can, I don't need it looking perfect, although that would be nice. Just need it looking more presentable. I've heard using a plunger can work but i think this damage is more serious. Is my best bet to take of the door panel and hit the dents with a rubber mallet or what?

Any info is appreciated. thanks.

Beating the dent out with any hammer wont make it look much better unless you plan to do some mud work and repaint that door and blend the color into the front door at least. That door is pretty smashed, in most cases that door would be replaced with a used/new door or have the door skin replaced. Then the front door and the quarter panel would be replaced.

Is the driver of that vehicle insured? Is insurance being involved? If insurance was involved as in they would pay to have the Escape repaired I would use that money to replace that smashed door with an entire used door. Tear the door down as far as window trim, that lower plastic applique and the door handle and install it on the car. Remove the same things from the front door as well as the drivers mirror then take it to Maaco. Maaco can do a decent paint job for really cheap, their work usually looks the worst when someone doesn't want to pay for parts to be removed which is very important for a decent paint job.

Like Colby said.. If it's insured... Let them take care of it. If not I would just get 2 doors from the JY and might get lucky enough to get the original color match. Would be a lot less stress than trying to make the knackerd doors look good again.

I second the JY doors. It will just be easier.

it was a hit and run job. So no insurance . : ( but i will consider everything and let you all know how it plays out
