im not sure if this belongs here, but while im here ill give it a try. I have a hissing sound like a vacuum leak coming out of the interior side of my brake booster, when the pedal is not pressed you can hear it and then when the pedal is pressed is starts to go away but then slowly comes back. i took a look down there and i noticed that there is somesort of boot maybe? around the rod that goes into the booster and it is all deteriorated, is that the problem? does that mean i need a whole new booster? i can take pics if needed

it is a problem, as your vacuum assist isnt working as well as it should be. on top of that, the boot could give way at any time...and you will suddenly find yourself with no brake assist at all. you need a new booster.

wicked is correct your booster is going bad. i have ran mine like that for almost two years now!

When you press the brake does the engine idle speed up? If so, the check valve is bad. The check valve "plugs" into the booster, on one end, and the vacuum line on the other end.
