me and my dad recently replaced the head gaskets on my 99 3.0 supercab ranger. emphasis on my dad. and whenever you do so you have to buy new bolts as most of u guys prolly know. and after getting every thing off cleaned up and ready to put back together we opened the new bolts and compared them with the old and found that they were too short by a couple inches so we took them back to the parts store, they got out another pack of bolts just incase they were misspackedged, they were also too short. after checking and looking around they pull out bolts for a 3.0 high out put and mached them with our old bolts and they were the same size. we can only think that it must have a high out put engine. noone saysthey have heard of that even ford says the same thing. but y would we need the highout put bolts to fit mt 3.0 ranger?:icon_confused:

Good Question... Talk to Wicked_Sludge. Most likely he will know. Trust me and keep me posted. I'm interested.

ford only used one type of 3.0 in the rangers....there was no high output option available.

there are are 3 different engines with 3.0 liters of displacement, none are related to one another. the 3.0 "SHO" (Super High Output) was used in the early generation of taurus. produced by yamaha, it has DOHCs. the 3.0 duratec was introduced as the optional engine in the taurus in the mid 90's (also used in the escape since it was produced) and also uses DOHCs. while both of these engines have higher output than the OHV engine used in the rangers, i dont forsee the head bolts interchanging. im curious as to what engine your parts store was looking at when they saw "high output".
