SOMETIMES when I go above about 70 mph the truck rumbles a bit. It's noticeable but it's not like tragic. But the thing is Pennsylvania roads are crappy, especially on Route 28, and I cannot tell if it's the truck or the roads. If you think it is something that should be taken care of, it's still under the warranty.

Btw it's a '98 XLT w/ 4WD

Thanks :icon_thumby:

Typically a "rumble" is either an out of balance driveshaft OR an axle
shaft bearing in the rear.

You do know that that year ranger has a Technical Service Bulletin on the drive shaft, Don't you? And that problem will cause vibrations in the shaft. The TSB indicates that the drive shaft should be removed and re-greased with a special grease. Most people on here just put a zerk (grease point) on the shaft.

what is the special grease called so I can talk to someone about it?

I would think driveshaft vibrations come into play alot sooner than 70. Im thinkin maybe his tire combo with the roads, and or wheel bearings.

See that's the thing, It only happens sometimes. But I guess it could be anything that anyone else described.

Would a missing rear shock have anything to do with it?
