Just read, read, read, and then read some more. Once you've read enough, rest then read some more. Do good in school as EVERYTHING you learn there you'll be able to apply weather consciously or subconsciously. Then sit down, look at your truck, pickup more reading material and then read some more about anything and everything regarding what you want to do with this truck.

I have to agree about the reading and the schooling. Right now you have a golden opportunity to get into the racing side of things as people are generally willing to give a young person chances they wouldn't to older. The ones racing are generally good in the maths and sciences as that directly relates to vehicle building. If you just want to get out on a few whoops then there is cheap ways of doing so and TRS can help. First tell us what type of truck you have or are planning on getting and we can point you in the right direction.

Welcome to TRS~!

Many good people on here to show you the ins and outs and if you are good with tools as you say then you should ace this exam with ease...

Your picture is probably easy enough for you to do with basic understanding...and mucho bucks...some of those parts are expensive and cannot be fabricated...but once you have the basic truck you can use it to make money with your hard work and skills...and buy the parts as you can afford to...

Just keep in mind...those parts are not needed to do what you want to do...they are better suited in some ways but not necessarily a must have to do that kind of driving...unless you just want to mall crawl...that's your choice...

Set your budget for your truck and triple it. Building a prerunner isn't cheap. Its good that you know how to weld. That will save you a ton of money. But like said above read a lot. Go on dezertrangers.com. lots of good info on there. They can just be assholes sometimes haha
