I recent purchased my '06 Ranger and am undoing the crappy wiring job the previous owner did as well as ridiculous bolt ons, like 150-200lbs between a brush guard and 10,000lbs rated trailer hitch.

I replaced a burn out high mount brake light yesterday and while I have the assembly off I thought about what I could do.

1- convert to cargo lap; just need the housing, small brake light lamps would suffice and I can tie into the dome light right behind the high mount. There is an aftermarket led option for this-- but I really like stock looks.

2- paint negative arrows on the two wing sections and install 2 turn lamps (one on each side) then wire into existing turn indicator harness and presto, high mount turn indicators.

3- convert to solid high mount brake light. Add 2 brake lights to make a completely illuminated bar. There is an after-market led option for this.

Really want to go with option 1 but am having trouble tracking down a high mount assembly w/ cargo lighting option... any leads?

All the rangers have the same mount spacing for the cargo / brake light. Find one in the junkyard. The bulb harness for it is already wired in the dome wiring. You just need the three bulb plug in for the cargo light setup, probably found with the jy lens assembly.

There's a really good chance the wiring is NOT already there. I had to run my own wire to a switch to get my cargo lights to work. If the harness has 3 wires, it's pre-wired for cargo lights. If it has 2 wires, you have to run your own wire.

it is a two wire harness, I'm not shy about splicing wires. :icon_welder:

I just installed a cheapo keyless entry that said it didn't have parking lamp notification-- but it does. Friend spent the extra money for the feature and out modules are identical to the model number, so I used his instructions (identical except 1 wire which was labeled "do not use" on mine) tested with the extra high mount bulb i had and presto, single for lock triple w/ unlock. now to wire it into my parking lights (planning on splicing in behind the dash toggle).

The thing with finding junkyard replacement parts down here is there aren't many rangers or junkyards. If anyone sees a highmount assembly w/ cargo lights at a junk yard I'll pay you for it and shipping. Just PM me before buying it in case I actually found one or someone else beat you to it.:headbang:
