OK, a straight forward question, on a motor that is presumed to have over 100,000 miles on it, good compression and burns very little oil, but has some very minor seal leaks, which of the two oils would you use if you had no other choice:

Mobil One High Mileage 10W-40W

or

Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30W

Replace leaky seals and use whatever. The point of high mileage oil is that it allegedly keeps seals soft and flexible. If you have leaky seals it's too late

100,000 miles is considered "high mileage"? The last vehicle I had with less than 100k was our 2006 Expedition and it's at 108k just over a year after we got it with 80k on it. I use Oreillys store brand 5w30 in my Ranger and 5w20 (same brand) in the Expy. I won't say that there isn't something extra in high mileage oils, but I wouldn't pay much more for it.

Castrol high mileage. Its designed and engineered with anti sludging in mind. The last two engines I've replaced ran mobil one, one only had 139k miles and the bearing siezed...

Maxlife 10-40, a bit thicker and... it's a conventional oil (dino). A synthetic is thinner and will clean too much of the gunk and make the seals leak more lol. A few yrs ago I found Mobile 1 full synthetic 10-40 for $9.00 per 5 gallon jug at Walmart. I grabbed all six bottles until the wife gave me the dirty look of saying "what the heck are you doing with 6 bottles of oil"! I put two back and have regretted it ever since! Good oil but stick to dino HM for your situation IMO.
