I"m in the process of building up my 94 super cab. Axles, tranny, the works. Anywho, I have high idle, and yes i've searched the topic but cant really come up with any conclusions. Basically while driving around, when I pull up to a light and come to a stop, it wont drop from 1500rpms, unless I shut the truck off and restart, or tap on the gas a time or two or drag the clutch some to put a load on the motor. Most of the time one of those 3 work, but its still annoying as hell. And being that its not my daily driver anymore doesn't mean I am just going to say screw it and forget about it because I cannot stand when things do not work properly like they should. I'm getting to the point now after reading everyone's post that its a possible intake gasket leak on the rear of the motor, due to I have noticed a substantial amount of oil leakage on the back of the motor. But first, I can deal with an oil leak IF the gasket being faulty is not causing me to idle high. My question is, when I get a vacuum gauge, where do I check for leaks? What hoses per say do I check for vacuum? Every one of them? I'm also going to take off the IAC and put my hand over the holes to see if it idle correct or not because I read in a post by, I believe crazy white boy that he did this test and it turned out the valve was bad. If worst comes to worst, I'll tear down the top end and replace the fuel rail gaskets and intake gaskets but would rather check the easy stuff first. Thanks for all and any help/advise. Its greatly appreciated.

when the last time the fuel filter has been changed out ?

It's cheap and easy to do and heck could prolly use it to.

Easy test for a vacuum leak is to spray the hoses and gasken area with carb cleaner or water. If the idle goes up with the carb cleaner, or down with the water, then you can find the leak. It's not as precise as a vacuum gauge but is a nearly free starting point. Check out the lines visually and listen for hissing.

and if not a vacuum hose leak, would you say its the gasket?

its been cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and plus I bought two others from junk yard motors that had low miles on them. Not saying they were brand new, but i'm just gettin the feeling that a brand new one wouldn't solve my problem, becuase i sold a guy one of the IACs I had and he said it worked perfect for him, so who knows. I might be getting a free bbk entire super charger for this thing, if so, i'll just end up replacing the gaskets anyways.

I've found out since yesterday (see my other thread - "cleaning TB, etc...") that you cannot clean some IAC's, nor your EGR valve, and ESPECIALLY DO NOT take off the TPS if there's no TC's for it! SO, I had to replace $100 of parts today that I could have just left alone (IAC and TPS). The TPS was out of whack, which threw my idle up to ~2500 rpm's sometimes! Also, go get yourself a can of MAF cleaner spray and clean yer MAF! There's a guide http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/CleanMAF.html here. Good luck.
