Hida a key? and fire extinguisher type/location

But how do you move the truck to get the key out from under the tire?
Grab the locking hub and lift the tire. Grab key with your other hand. It’s only a Ranger.

For the fire extinguisher, I mounted mine in the center of the back panel just under the window for theoretical quick and easy access. That works for Supercab Ranger but may not for regular cab models, depending on seat design. I also happened to find one that is painted grey. So it blends in better with the interior.

The plastic base it comes with was screwed right into the plastic panel. So, it should not become a projectile in case of an accident but I also haven’t tested that theory in any way. With it being in the middle, if it does go flying, it shouldn’t hit anyone but it may take out the windshield.

it’s actually not handy right now because the lever to tilt the seat forward is broken

Mine broke way back and I looked everywhere for one but now I guess yours and mine are the only two they bolted. Everything I found in the wrecking yard was molded in place, or riveted with some impossible to drill steel

Looking at this a piece of small angle with 2 holes drill in it should work

For my extinguisher I just threw it in the back

II haven’t fixed the seat handle yet. I’m just going to carefully weld something on what’s left and make it hang down instead of up where it catches my pants. That’s how it got broken.

I mounted a small extinguisher beside the seat on the floor. You can see it immediately when you open the door. Not sure the size.

Okay that's kind of cool. I just looked at mine and you must be using probably a 5 lb or smaller because it's really not much room there. How did you mount it did you put screws into the floor or what?
Looking at it reminded me that I have those inflatable lumbar things, I don't remember seeing them on the list of options they must have come with one of the option packages. Seems like if they ran power to it they could have put in heated seats too and maybe power seats although the latter I'm not sure I'm thrilled about because I've had them go bad on me a few times. Maybe they were the option that I can't figure out from the oasis report.
There should be a label on your extinguisher that tells the specs.

I was thinking it would be good to have a spare key with me in case I was out in the woods and somehow lost my key or locked in the truck. I've actually never done either of those things in all my recollection, but it's possible. So the question is, do you think it's a good idea, and where would be the likely place to put it? Has to be metal - inside bumper maybe.
Maybe I'd just do it when I'm going off road, I mean, it does open up the possibility if you're in town, someone could search for it and find it then you're screwed. Of course of all the vehicles that get stolen I'm pretty sure my trucks aren't near the top of the list.
Yes I know manual trans is a good theft deterrent these days but I don't have it.

As others have said, I wouldn't keep a spare key on the truck. For my Taurus (and I did the same for the Ranger) I have a set that is every key related to the car. On my house keys, I have a door/ignition key. In a cupboard, I have another full set. I did the same for the '90 Ranger, except that the key on my house keys was a door key only. I've done it this way for 35 years. It was one of many lessons my dad taught me.

HI YOURE STILL HERE I MISSED YOU

Here's mount for 2.5 lb which is probably correct size for inside truck.
I think it's on a Bronco but as noted the extinguisher fits in Ranger.
You could make one way cheaper, just saying, they're out there.

I have a spare metal key in my wallet, no PATS
If you have PATS then hide a PATS key in the cab some where and carry metal key in your wallet to open the door

My 1994 came with these already cut, found it in the glove box: https://www.ebay.com/itm/294937428394
Thought it was cool, but never tried the key

Install a keypad to unlock door, they work like a Fob so you do need to have keyless entry already, they also use a battery like a fob so no wiring needed
Or if you have power door locks, install a hidden external push button to unlock a door, its just 1 wire, to ground a relay, ground the button locally
And have a hidden key inside cab for either in case key was lost not just locked in vehicle

Cool!!!
I have power locks.
Is keyless just stick-on, i.e., no cutting into door or wiring it, right?
Lots of good options there, thanks.

I meant keypad.
Once they cut them they are not attached to the square, right? I have to get a couple spares for the XLT so these are cool. Not sure why plastic is better than flat steel one, lighter I guess.
My lock guy will think this is weird, but if they can cut metal they sure as heck should be able to cut plastic.
I'm getting them just because they're cool.
