Hi all!
New member from So-Cal, Ontario area.
Just picked up a new to me, 99 ranger. 3.0 5 speed manual.
Body is ok. Needs paint.
Truck needs new clutch, starting to fail.
I’ve reworded the maf and installed new más sensor. New egr and pcv valve and breather tube.
I’ve replaced the gauge lights with leds as half the gauges wouldn’t illuminate.
Interior has been redone minus the seats, they just need to be cleaned well.
Currently dealing with the final issue, p0174.
Bank 2 lean- only dtc being noted.
I’ve smoke tested the vac plumbing and only spots I’m finding are iac and egr . Both are new. Anyone care to point me where else to look?
Thanks everyone
👍

Welcome and congrats!
New doesn't mean good. I had to replace my IAC twice because the first new one was a dud out of the box (because it was autozone duralast brand). I replaced it again with a motocraft unit and it worked after that.

Also make sure they are sealed up nice and tight, the leak might be from gaskets.

Also maybe replace the PCV valve, its cheap and easy and they do go bad (causing problems)

Whats it doing besides throwing code? hows she running?

I’ll have to see about getting yet another iac and see if that’s the issue. I replaced the pcv yesterday, and that hose seemed nastily hard. It’s supposed to be rubber right? Any idea what the id of that hose is?
Honestly, truck runs decent. Idles a bit high, around 8-900 and it’s not super smooth but it’s definitely not horrible. Only issue is that trouble code. I’ve been pulling my hair out for the past few weeks over it. Can’t smog until it’s fixed 😞

Yep its supposed to be rubber, I replaced mine with a new one from rock auto. it was a few bucks and pre shaped, so I didnt note the id.

You can test the IAC by unplugging it while running and see if the idle changes.

Also check the DPFE and lines going to it. Matter of fact maybe check all the vacuum lines, I had to replace a few. Sometimes the old factory lines can be hidden cracked from the inside.

Oh yea and if you havent already, disconnect the battery for a few mins and driving it awhile to clear and reset the codes. You may hav ealeardy fixed it but the CEL is still in memory, sometimes mine takes a while to go away on its own.

How many miles on her? The Cats might be old too....ugh I hate CA Smog, such BS...

Well oddly enough the rear o2 sensor is reading fine and during the readiness test with the scanner it normally reads ok.
So I would assume the cats are ok.
I’ll have to check rock auto, the only hose I’ve seen on there is the one for the breather, not the one that directly connects to the pcv valve. It seems many parts are discontinued to having to use generic hoses and what not is kind of the norm these days?
DPFE is definitely on my to do list. The lines seems new, which leads me to believe that maybe the sensor was acting up and the previous owner just cheaped out.

Aw ok maybe I just had better luck w/ my year/engine size, but they categorize stuff weird so make sure you checked every related category. Otherwise look elsewhere but it should turn up. Or make one or wrap your old one in tape lol, but do replace the pcv valve itself if you havent recently.

I changed my DPFE because it threw a code, I forget which, but remember it was an easy swap. The hose attached to it needed love too.
