Stupi(e)d question: Which high flow water pumps actually work...

since I installed the 2nd radiator under the bed (long-drug-induced-story)...I lost about 20% of the flow thru the radiator return hose on the v-8....

just wondering which Brand actually works?

wait so you have 2 radiators on your rig? thats cool as hell...

honestly i would try it out, and see if you even need the pump. i mean, 2 radiators, even with the reduced flow you might be coming danm close to matching the radiator(s) outlet coolant temp to the temp of the air flowing through them lol in which case, i dont think you would need alot of water flow, seeing how the engine will be getting 70 degree or less coolant into it.

The 1936 style radiator isn't designed for A/C....that's why I added the 2nd radiator from the '89 Ranger spare parts...it seems the a/c condenser is using up all the "cool 95* air" which caused the engine to run 200*+......the second radiator dropped the temp to a steady 180* with the a/c turned on.

I was thinking like you...it really should be running a lot cooler than 180*.....that makes me think like another member suggested......not enough flow even though it's got PLENTY of cooling area now.

I want it to be ready for the spring when I start dragging a motorcycle trailer or a travel trailer around....

think i'd give Summit racing a call and ask for their advice. they should have more than enough know-how to help you out. good luck!

thanks.....I looked up the flow=rate on a stock water pump--it's 30 gallons a MINUTE! It probably dropped the flow to 20 g.p.m. when I added the second radiator.

No wonder water shoots across the yard when i yank the return hose from the top of the radiator with the engine idling at 900 rpm.....LOL.

I'm gonna look at Summit & Jegs again.....& call em like you said.

UPDATE: I found out that the A/C condenser heats up to 180*+.......so the little 1936 style radiator is not able to do it's job when the A/C is running, since very hot air from the oversized condenser is preventing any radiator cooling from taking place.

So......basically the front radiator is useless when the A/C is on....which explains why the second radiator only cools down the engine to 180*F with the thermostat removed and outside air temp at 95*F.

Sooooo....I'm gonna swap the hoses to the engine & cool it using the rear radiator/electric fan set-up....I'll post the results in 3 or 4 days...(NOT THAT ANYONE ELSE WILL EVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM>>>LOL)

Sorry, I'm a little loopy today. I could just see you sitting in a desk explaining that whole thing to someone then just jumping up and flipping it to yell that sentence. It's all in my head:icon_twisted:
