HI 2nd gear rpms

i talked to my friend who runs a shop and told him i have really high rpms in my second gear. around 3000.

he said i need to change the coolant temperature sensor cause he said it ruins alot of transmissions if it isnt replaced. is this right?

when it shifts into 2nd gear its starts at 5000 rpms i just went and looked

i just recently got my truck asbout 2 months ago and it has been doing it since

A bad coolant temp sensor can make the trans shift improperly but making it use the wrong shift schedule.

3000 RPM in 2nd gear sounds appropriate, but that is probably near the shift point for 3rd. 5000 RPM is excessive, but I don't know that I'd jump to the coolant temp sensor as my first suspect.

Honestly, first thing I'd do is go get the fluid changed. Then maybe look at the trans fluid temp sensor and speed sensors before moving on to the ECT sensor, unless there were other symptoms that pointed to the ECT as well, like the gauge not working right, poor fuel economy, fan running all the time, that kind of thing.
