Today I removed my first 5spd in my 95 ranger. I wish I would have removed y pipe, but didnt think it would be a problem. Man was I wrong. a floor jack would have been nice. wanna here something funny? I didnt think I would lose tranny fluid being as though it was a manual, I rotated trans forgetting I removed shifter, I was under trans no jack. It was dark just had led head lamp. I didnt realize I was getting drenched until soaked. couldnt really go anywhere holding tranny. spent 5 or 6 min alternating asking god to help me then cursing profanities. bystanders had to think I had at least a couple personalities. I can laugh now but an hour ago I wasnt laughing. Im removing that y pipe before I even attempt to reinstall. heat and pb blaster. all this for a slave cylinder? geeeeez. Oh by way figured out it was slave from this site, thanks yall.

Well atleast you can look at the bright side. The Y-pipe will be easier to remove now that the transmission is out of the way!

its all part of the experience man...its why we wrench :icon_thumby:

once upon a time i was hepling a friend pull a t-case from an s-10 blazer. i made a point to grab some latex gloves and put them on because the trans. was leaking, covering itself and the t-case in crud. we stepped under the truck (on a hoist) one on either side of the case and started working it off. as soon as the seal between trans and case broke, i got a healthy dose of trans fluid all down both my arms and most of my torso and shoulders. i couldnt help but laugh at the futility of my clean hands under my latex gloves.

sucess!!

well trans back in, yehaa!! I didnt even remove y pipe, took alittle wigglin but got it done. looks like I got the wrong trans fluid though, I got type f trans fluid. everyone says I should get mercron, any suggestions?

thanks, this site has saved me a ton of money!! I dont know how much someone would have charged, but I got a feeling Ive saved some cash baby!!

current labor rates are quickly approaching $100 an hour. a clutch job on your truck is probably listed as at least a 5-6 hour job. so ya, you saved some green :clapping:

Yeah you definitely saved some money. I did a few of them recently for a labor charge of 250 and that's half of what someone else around here would charge. I mostly do them that cheap because it's usually someone who is also buying a transmission from me but also 250 isn't bad for something that takes 4 hours of my time. I wish I could swap out Mazda transmissions all day every day because i'd do like 3 of them a day without even getting tired.
