Well the money pit is acting up again 1989 Ranger 4x4 xlt 2.9 seems it never ends, anyway today the hesitation at acceleration was worse than previous, and the check engine light came on as I parked at the store, when I left the store the light was off Once safely at home while the truck was idling I patted the gas and the engine revved up and then the rpms dropped very low and the engine died but started easily again and idles fine When I pat the gas it revs and then almost dies couldn't find anyone today to check codes. I previous replaced the air idle control valve. Now Need advice. Thanks

it would be wise to get the codes...sometimes your favorite parts store will do it.

check behind/backkside the butterfly of the throttle plate. If it is all carboned up it maybe time to decarbon. check the other vacuum ports and see if their crusting over too....if so, then it maybe effort ahead just to remove the upper intake and give it a thorough cleaning.

when was the last time a tune up was done?

its a 2.9.....get some throttle body cleanerpull the hose right @ the upper intake...squirt a little at a time with engine running....it will probly die so you may rev it just a little and be easy on the spray....you'll notice it run smoother and idle better once you get half a can through it....and in a couple months repeat...

hesitation

blasted the throttle intake with carb cleaner it has not acted up since ,thanks for your tip
