The first mistake's '83 T-Bird had that style horn. Scared the crud out of us one day when the inevitable car cut her off, and there was no hornage where it should have been. Her grandma's '84 T-Coupe had a "normal" one, though....maybe they got too many complaints and/or threats of lawsuits?

The horn is not an idiot-proofing device, its an item used by idiots to remove other idiots from the road.... idiot....:thefinger: actually, the horn brought up lawsuit on the grounds it was unaccessable during a traffic jam, no joke.:icon_confused:

I have found that it is better to focus on what is happening on the road than to focus on using the horn...

I find sometimes the horn is needed to get other people to focus on the road.

I installed a horn in my 84 B2 because for the 8 months or so that I owned it I didn't know, or discover that.... Wow... Who came up with that ridiculous idea?

Hummer H1s also have the horn on the turn signal. Really dumb spot for it. I also hate it when cars have the two small buttons on either side of the steering wheel for the horn. My Accord has those and its sometimes hard to beep in time.

I used to blame it on the Great Ninja Infiltration.....a group of covert operatives hired by GM to perform subversive acts upon Fords.

Huh. so you are telling me i might have a horn on my 84 b2 after all? i've had it for 6 years and just thought it didn't work! i am gonna check it out when i get back in town wed.

I remember when I invited adsm08 over during the summer, I old him to look for the horn and I had to point it out. he's the ford mechanic too =) obviously, it took me 3 months to find it, but still, akward placement it have

It was a stupid European idea that the automakers (Ford most notably) adapted in the 80s. All (or most) of their product line except full-size trucks had that incredibly stupid horn-on-a-stalk. About the same time we saw the dimmer switch move from the floor to the stalk as well, and parking brakes go from foot-operated to johnny-bar style (like the PA flaps reference, fellow aviators?).

AFAIK, nobody does it anymore, and it didn't last long, thankfully.
