So, i got the idea from my buddy to clean up my truck by hitting the rocker panels with some bedliner. I was thinking i'd clean up the rust and then get some roll-on liner. :headbang:
Any of you guys done this with your truck? What do you think of the idea?:icon_bounceblue:

Depends. How bad is the rust?

Either way, roll on bed liner is the thing nowadays. It's definitly better than the factory paint when it's against the rock chips.

What ever you do; do not use aerosol bed liner! No matter the brand, it's just nowhere near as good as roll on.

i used aerosol.... its not as thick... but definatly works fine... i can take a key down the side of my truck and it wont scratch it. (of course not as hard as i can though!) i like it.

the rust isn't bad. a bit over the wheel well. i was thinking that with roll on, i'd just get a better finish. i heard some stories of spray-on peeling. Pillen, do you like the look? I'm likin it because if i get crap on it, i can just spray it off with water.

i really like it. you can see it in my profile picture. some people probably dont like it, but its my truck! lol. this stuff is not great for hiding rust though, it usually holds rust in and makes it worse unless you clean it/prime it first.

I just did my fenders where the flares used to be with some spray on rocker guard from shucks, so far it seems really tough and I like the look

I have cheap aerosol on my rockers and bumpers, I love it. It peels, yes, but I just sand and re-coat every once in a while.

in my avatar, everything that is ford 'sand' color is bedliner. had it sprayed on along with inside the bed and cab when i had the paint job done. i have used the roll on bedliner on my trail rig with pretty good results. proper prep is the key to having it look good and last a long time.
and x2 on the spray... it doesn't last long at all and is very thin in comparison. roll or brush on from the gallon cans is best.

I'm doing mine for my Xmas present. I am doing it in a smooth satin black to give it more of a custom look. I have seen a few that were done with the grainy finnish and I don't like it. I think it cheapens your ride.
Juat my .02 worth......lol

I used Herculiner on my bed and I extended it down the side of the bed to the top most body line. It is the roll on type and very rough.

I have plans to do the bottom of the rocker panel and around the wheel openings...when I get 'round to it. Because the Herculiner is so rough I plan on using a spray on type, I already picked up some, I think it was Duplicor, can't remember off hand.

I've used the spray on type before on the inside of the doors of my '83 F150 and really liked it. It wasn't nearly as rough as the Herculiner and it seemed plenty durable, deflecting blows from my shoes upon egress from the vehicle. Yes, it wasn't as thick as a roll on type and certainly way thinner than the professional spray on type such as LineX or Rhino Liner but how thick do you want a paint substituting coating to be?

I did my rockers and the wheel arches on the Mazda. Had the guy down the block do it, actually. He does spray-in bedliner for a living, he did mine in color-matched material. Really tough, flexible, easy to clean.

Thinking about getting the bed done.
