Hola From Port Orchard WA.. Recently in a fit of rage i over drove my 1994 ranger xlt 3.0l 5spd home form work (i commute 90 miles round trip) while going over the :thefinger:(thats for the-->)Hood canal bridge i noticed my temp gauge was in the middle of NORMAL..it never gets to the N prior to this event. nowhere to pull over on the bridge or on the 2 lane rural highway it was 4 mile drive to find a spot with enough room for me and not to fall off the shoulder down a dam hill into the water, I quickly realized i had thermostat issues and required a 38mile tow home.
I replaced The water pump (cuz i was under the hood) thermostat and upper radiator hose. As I refilled the radiator i noticed its leaking out where the upper hose goes into the thermostat housing, looks like its coming out of the head, is that possible w/o the engine running? Gauge never got past the A in normal, but my guess it was HOT when i pulled over due to the amount of smoke and water leaking out, Blown Head Gasket and or Warped Head? I also have access to a 93 taurus 3.0l if i need to swap engines(if that will work, according to yalls threads it will) Thanks for any help, Geo from Pt Orchard Wa

It dont sound like the engine got too hot to me I would focus on the leak before you freak out about what it could be work your way to finding what it is. Are you posative the t-stat housing was put on correct and the surfaces were good and clean before you put on new gaskets and o-ring if necessary same with the hose you replaced and the clamp is good and tite and cleaned the housing nipple good. I always use permatex #2 on water and oil gaskets it drives me crazy when i take somthing apart put together with silicone and the reason it was leaking because of the silicone.

Yup New O ring and permatex#2,inspected the housing for cracks can't see any with my eye, im perplexed, miss my truck, thanks for the advice,I'll take it apart again to make sure,Fellow Washingtonian. Maple Valley bout 1hr form me

cool bought my boat close to you a little north i believe any way if the compression and vacuum is good do a leakdown test and check the oil for water and visa versa. It is nice you already have the engine in case you need to go that route. Was that the first time you had a ussue with the cooling system.

Whoopsy

The leaks coming from the lower radiator hose where it goes into the block, made a mistake on which hose it was, no water in the oil. Have to disassemble the pulley system etc so i can get a good look at the problem
