I swapped an explorer 8.8 w/ disc brakes in my ranger. now the brake pedal goes to the floor with virtually no pressure when the engine is running. but when its off, the pedal has a lot of pressure. I think i've gotta put a new master cylinder in to compensate for the disc brakes in the rear, is that right? or is there something else i should check? I've got the rear up in the air and i can't even get it to come to a stop(the rear). If i need to replace the master cyldiner can i get away with using one from an f150 or do i need to get an explorer one?

How well have you bled the brakes? You do have the bleeders up? did you actually have someone on the pedal, with you on the bleeders?

Your truck have rear abs?

the brakes are bleed thoroughly, me and my dad bleed them, even ended up taking the calipers and rotors off and flipping the 'upside' down since the bleeders are the bottom of the calipers while its on the axle. There is no air in the lines, or if there is, it is so minimal that it would have no effect.

yeah it has rear abs.

I was thinking i could pull the proportional valve out, would that help solve the problem? has anyone pulled that valve out, and had problems with the brakes in snow/ice or wet roads?

I took it out and drove it around for a bit, stops fine, but the brake pedal pressure is definitely not where i want it too be. When i put it to the floor, im gonna say off a wild ass guess that i can go from 60-0 in about 150-180 ft. But its just soft, not soft like air in the line soft, but just like there isn't enough pressure being pushed.
