I picked up another set of 15X8 Canyon/Wrangler wheels last week for my 94 RatRanger, the guy had em stored in a shed for a while & around the lug nut holes, it looks like they have had some kinda chemical put on em & it blistered the clearcoat & pitted the aluminum.

Is there any known (CHEAP) way to smooth out the area & to remove the clearcoat safely so that they can be recleared?.

BTW: I tried a scotch brite pad & steel wool and it did nothin!

THANKS for any & all help guys!!!

I think it's just the clear coat coming off. It happens.

easy off oven cleaner. the good stuff that you need to wear a mask for. spray in on the wheels, letting it work for about 10 minutes, then with a brillo and hot water, scrub the cleaners off. then polish the wheel up. and hit it with some duplicolor clear laquer. thats how i do all my wheels, and they look outstanding. hold up great too. this is the quickest and easiest way ive found.

get them sandblasted and reclearcoat. Looks like they had something sitting on it for a long period of time.

Update>>>

Will get pics next trip to the garage...............

I've used aircraft stripper, that got most of the clear coat off, then I hit it with a DA (dual-action sander)..........I picked up some 1000 grit sandpaper to get rid of the swirl marks.

Somebody on one of the sites I posted this told me to use "pink" coil cleaner (HVAC product) and then polish.............gonna try it next time I work on em.

THANKS for all the advice!

So.. the aircraft stripper you ended up using was what? MEK? Methyl-Ethyl Ketone?
