I am needing some information from you transmission guys. I have a 1990 Ranger 3.0 V6 2 WD that needs the transmission replaced. I have a friend who will give me a '87 Ranger 2.8 V6 Toyo Kyogo 5 speed but it will not bolt up to the 3.0 engine unless I can find a bell housing to put on the Toyo Kyogo tranny. What transmission can I use to get the 3.0 bell housing off of? Nothing but a 3.0 bell housing will work that I am aware of. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if its an 87, then its a 2.9 and an FM145. the FM145 is a real bastard ransmission. i dont know if there is a bellhousing that would fit and the 3.0, but even if there was, its almost 2" shorter than the 5 speed in your truck (its a stick, right? not an auto?) what you really need is a 2wd m5od that fits a 3.0

edit: wait, is the '87 a 4x4 or 2wd?

'86-'87 Aerostar w/manual. They were not all that rare 15 years ago. Pretty hard to find now. Good luck.

I guess I need to find a tranny for the '90 3.0 2WD somewhere then huh? The one in my buddy's truck now is a 5 speed but not sure just yet what kind it is. There is no tag on it anywhere or markings to tell us what it is other then it's a 5 speed. Can anyone tell me what will fit for a replacement or do I have to put the exact kind back in it? We have no idea if it's the orginal transmission in it now or not.

According to the TRS Tech Section, this is the transmission that should be in my buddy's truck now. He told me his bell housing is not removeable. I have 2 M50D 5 speeds that came out of '91 4.0 Explorers but the bell housings ARE removeable on mine. Does the M50D in the 3.0 V6 have a removeable bell housing or not? I'm not sure my buddy knows what he is looking at & I have not seen it myself.

m5od's dont have a removable bell housing. bell housing bolt patterns for a 3.0 dont match any other RBV engine. you need an m5od from a 2wd truck (or aerostar) with a 3.0, but if you post up some pics, we can help ID everything you have in question.
