hello everyone. im new to the site and to the ranger as well. ive had my ranger for about 2 months now.i have a 96 ranger 2.3 with the 5 speed. the other day i was driving when the truck died. turns out my timing belt broke. ok so i replaced it. made sure all the marks lined up properly. truck wouldnt start so i replaced crank shaftpo positioning sensor still wouldn't start i noticed i wasnt getting any spark. so i replaced the coils, plugs and wires. the truck finaly starts. now it lacks powers. i drive down the road and it feel very slugish. the more gas i give it the more slugish it feels. i just dont know what it could be. ive checked the timing belt several times and it lines up with the marks just fine. i just dont know what else it could be:dunno:. any advise???? any inputs would be greatly apreciated. thanx in advance

When you replaced your timing belt were all the pulleys lined up properly?

On the 95 and newer 2.3 the crankshaft keyway has to be at 12' 0-CLOCK and "BOTH" the cam sprocket AND oil pump sprocket need to have the DIAMONDS at 12' 0-CLOCK as well.

Disregard the triangles on the pulleys, YOU NEED both cam and oil pump sprockets diamonds at 12:00, along with the crankshaft keyway at 12:00.

If they're not lined up properly, even one tooth off, it will run as you describe.

i thought i had to lined them up with the triangles on the cover

You know, I don't have my cover on anymore and have'nt for years.......plus I've pulled my timing belt off about a thousand times, so you may be right about lining it up with the cover.

All I know for a fact is the diamonds need to be "top dead center" on both pulleys along with the keyway on the crankshaft.

The second picture is of the oil pump pulley bump that triggers the cam position sensor. On pre 95 2.3's it's not necessary to properly align this pulley, but 95 and on it's required or it will not run right. Maybe you got yours right, but if it was running fine before the timing belt change something has to be off.
