i have a 87 ranger 2.9 when i start it in the morning i got to keep hiting the gas to keep it running until it gets warmed up. i have put throttle position sensor on it and it still doesnt want to run until it gets warm then it runs fine. anyone know what it could be ?? thanks

Must be something in the air around here, I have the same problem I just never thought about it. But I hardly ever drive her during cold weather. Maybe someone will give us both an idea on what to do.

The IAC controls idle.

Clean yours!

When I clean them, I fill the air chambers with SeaFoam or other good solvent and let it soak for a few. Then, knowing that the plunger rides along that shaft, I smack the IAC against the palm of my hand repeatedly so that the plunger travels its full extension. If you do it right, you'll hear a distinct thwock sound. Worst case, buy a new one.

The two wire engine coolant sensor can also cause the problem as it signals the eec to adjust the mixture based on actual engine temperature.
