Ok, here it goes. Right now I work at a small auto repair shop, it used to be really busy but lately I've been having to call in and see if I'm needed. I haven't worked in the last two weeks. And the bodyshop I took the Ranger to just let a guy go, and they might be hiring me. Now I do like where I work, it's a really nice place to work, when there is work. The problem is if I get this new job, I'm not sure how to tell my current boss I quit, cause he is a good guy.

Talk to the manager and see what he says. Also check with the other bodytshop to see if they will hire you and what the pay would be, you might be better off there.
I had a job like that. They hired me parttime (about 30 hrs a week) while i was in college. The pay was really great and the people were really nice, and the manager was always pushing to get me to classes offered by the company. Unfortunately after about a year or so they started cutting my hours, but also said they were looking to hire more people. I talked to my manager about it and he said that the orders were coming from higher up, and there was nothing he could do about it. It got to the point i was only working 8 hours a week and it was barely enough for gas to get there. I turned in my two week notice stating that i couldnt afford to work there anymore. I ended up taking up a job at a dealer ship, but i am way overqualified for my position there as shop bitch. Guess thats just the way it goes.

The problem is that work is really slow where I'm at now, I mean today he had one car, one. And one manager at the body shop already offered me a job, I'm just waiting for them to call. I would be doing the more mechanical end of the work along with all the "bitch" tasks.

Thank your boss for the job at his shop and tell him it no longer fits your needs and you need to move on.

Hey bud,
What do you mean you dont know how to quit a job,
you have a mouth and a middle finger dont you!?!
lol, but in a seriousy Im with Hahns on this one

One thing i would do is be civil about it. You never want to burn bridges, you might have to one day go back. just my .02 though GOOD LUCK

Just explain to your boss you need money to buy the essentials of life (food,power,gas,etc..) and what you are making now just isnt cutting it, and you are forced to move on. You do not want a burnt bridge, just need to work, call you if things get better and if he wants you back.

Just be honest. I recently left the Lexus dealership I was working at because it just wasn't working out, and I told my boss exactly that. I still have that connection though. Now I'm working 2 minutes down the street (I spend next to nothing on gas now), I get to do way more stuff, and my fellow mechanics are FAR nicer. Plus the pay is better.

Just be honest and courteous.

Just say you liked working for him but you know that the work is slow and you need to go somewhere esle. The owner is not stupid. He knows that work is slow.

Yea, he is a really good guy, and has taught me a lot so I don't want to burn any bridges. I just never really quit a job where the environment was actually good.

Like several had said "Don't burn bridges"! I told my boss that I was really unhappy and choise to retire early, gave them 4 months to train someone else. I was gone 4 weeks and they wanted me back at 50% more pay. Going to have to tell him nicely on Monday that I really want the rest of the Summer off, way too much to get done with my life.
