I have a 00 ranger 3.0 v6 mazda 5 speed tranny and the seal on the transfer case where the front driveshaft comes out seems to be leaking. i was wondering if anyone on here had replaced this seal before and had some tips or instructions. I bought the seal and was planning on taking it to a shop but there all booked up for awhile. thanks for any help.

It is pretty easy to do.

Remove tcase skid plate
Unbolt drive shaft.
Remove the nut in the center of the yoke with a 30mm socket. Shift the truck into 4x4 to hold the yoke from turning. you may need to try a couple different brands to find one that will fit in there. In one case I had to take my socket that had fit most other flanges and yokes and grind down the out side of it for it to fit.
pull the yoke off. it should come off with out to much trouble.
Remove the old seal. A large screw driver could work here.
Carefully install the new seal, tap it in as evenly as possible working your way around again and again until it is seated.
Reinstall yoke, drive shaft and tcase and your done.

Yea as above carefully work the seal out also careful not to damage the caseing and I recommend putting a light coat of permatex in the housing before you slowly press the new seal in. I prefer using the flat side of a large socket to tap it in with so you dont damage the seal and you can get it good and flush that way. Also check and clean the yolk where the seal touches it if their is a deep groove dont push the seal all the way in so it rides on a good clean surface.
