What are the best gears, I would like the best of all worlds, for 33's with Automatic trans 7.5open?

4.10? 4.56? 4.51? 4.88? or...?

I am very confused on the subject.

Thank you for anyone who can clear it up :derisive:

1500rmps 10-40. 45-50 2000rmps. 55-65 2500rmps. 70+ 3000rpms

That tire chart really won't do anything unless you know what you are looking for.

Go 4.88's. It'll help with the auto and the 3.0 is a rever. Lower gears will help keep it closer to where it needs to be.

That would great for off road, but her truck is 2wd isn't it? And I'm sure she doesn't want to kill her highway ability.

For a 4wd that crawls, I agree, but if it goes on the highway, no. 4.56's would be better

IMO

Put your numbers into THIS (it's safe) and see what you come up with. See what your driving style is like. Pay attention to it and figure out where you want a change, if anywhere.

All you should be looking to do is get your truck back to its original relative gearing. What tires did it come with?

Myself, I wish I would have gotten the deepest gears available. But I've never driven my truck on the interstate daily. I rarely exceed 50mph in normal use.

4.56s will bring you back to stock and i have a 3.0 and i would be regearing to that if i wasn't look in in to a SAS in the near future

That tire chart won't do anything even if you know what you're looking for. It makes assumptions about the engine's powerband, but doesn't tell you what it is. 3.0Ls and to a somewhat lesser extent 2.9Ls like to be revved high, and it's not at all clear that 3500 RPM will result in reduced highway mileage.

Also note that it assumes the trans ratio is 1:1. For almost all RBVs, the the correct ratio is around 0.85:1. So divide all those gear ratio numbers by 0.85.

4.56 would give you good pickup without totally killing the freeway manners.it will be revving 3000 or so at around 65mph.

with 33's and 4.10 my truck revs about 2600 at 65.your smaller motor will like the 4.56's and the auto has a slightly taller overdrive gear.

i do agree with will though. whatever gearing makes the speedo accurate again kills two birds with one stone(better accel, and an accurate speedo).

Well. I don't go on the highway much, and I never go over 70 now.

I like to off-road though :)

Still dont know what to do.

I bought the truck with 33in Mud Terrain tires, stock are just some small craps.

I'm just saying some have ran the 33's and 3.0 combo and many say go with 4.88's even with a 5spd. An auto needs that extra leverage.

Blackdog has the 3.0 auto 33's combo and I remember him saying 4.88's were the best choice.

My point is, if you are going to regear why not just go 4.88's ( esp if you like off-road), if you gear to 4.56's you may kick yourself in the rear and wish you'd gone a step lower.

also the 33s have an added weight than the factory little 26inch street runners that it was originally designed around. I would say from al of my experiance to go with 4.88s on this one. If you had a 4.0 then maybe 4.56s but with the 3.0 and the auto go with 4.88s. Also the deeper gear will help you not kill the tranny as fast because it wont have to slip and work as hard to get things moving and keep it moving.

If you go with 4.88s and 33s and your overdrive ratio is 0.85 then you would be running around 2800 RPMs at 65 on the highway in overdrive and that is about exactly where the 3.0 should be. Even a little higher like cruising around 3000 to 3200 is not a bad thing with the 3.0L and wil probably save gas mileage on the highway.

I went from 3.73's to 4.56's with 33's. 4.56 put me just about back to stock.
