im workin on a 95 Contour 2.0 DOHC. The guy thought that it needed a new motor. It idles rough, dies when you stop, but runs ok when going down the highway. Did a compression test, got 15,50,100,150, in that order from the front of the motor to the back. Oil isnt in the coolant or vice versa. I though the timing belt may have jumped but it appears to be in good condition, it was replaced 3-4 years ago.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Had a 95 as well with the shaking problem. I would always put it on neutral on stop sings in order to stop the problem.

Two things you may want to check,

1 Motor Mounts (not likely)

or

2 Torque Converter (most likely)

I had the same problem and it was the Torque Converter. I never fixed it because it was a lot of money to have it replaced (600 Bucks,:shok: that's 600 Cheeseburger!!!) and I didn't have the tools to do it. Give it a look.

Hope it helps.

its very likely that you have a blown head gasket between #1 and #2.

if you question the timing, peel the cover back and check it.

The timing looks right from the front (yellow lines across the cams) But the true timing marks are in the back so i havent gotten around to it yet. Im gonna do a leak down next week i think, i gotta a Dirt Track Trade Show to go to for work this weekend and ive been sick the past few days.
Thanks Wicked

with those compression readings i would say something is wrong with the engine, mechanical.

Head gasket. Between cyl 1 and 2. Common failure.

okay guys, i got a major problem, the head gasket isnt blown, the head doesnt looked cracked, niether does the block. one valve is burnt on cylinder 2, but i cant find anything wrong with #1, what else could be wrong???.

if it isnt the top end then its got to be the bottom end. cracked ring(s) perhaps. now that the heads off, where the cams in sync?

yeah, both cams were in sync, when i put air to cylinder 1 it felt like it was coming out of 2, so i thought that it had to be head gasket, head cracked or somethin like that, my last hope is that the head is warped bad. guess ill have to find out tommorrow.
