Help!!!! Re: 2000 Ranger 3.0L...I have a long block being delivered today. Not sure where to connect the hoist sling to the motor to get it off the delivery truck. Chiltons says to just connect the sling to the "lifting brackets on the engine". Where are these? New long block may not have them as well so I need to pick some up before the motor arrives in a couple of hours

Thanks in advance Rob - 858.442.8658

Are you using a typical engine hoist? When an engine is missing those, I simply find 2 bolts that bolt into the front of one head and into the back of the other and bolt it to my engine balancer.

Engine Hoist Motor Connection

The hoist is a standard boom with a single chain connected to a chain sling with flat brackets to bolt through on each end of the sling. I'm not sure what you mean by connecting to the "Balancer". Are you speaking of the "dampner / harmonic balancer" located on the end of the crank? Chilton's photo looks like it connects diaganolly to front and rear of the motor some where near the heads although it is a poor photo when it comes to clarity.

Also what size bots should I use to mount the new motor to the engine stand. I'm thinking the same diameter as the trans / motor block bolts but I don't know what size they are.

Thanks, Rob

No, I meant an engine balancer that connects to the hook in the end of the engine hoist. Chains would work too, I use a balancer to balance the engine either getting it on a stand or mating it back up with a trans (if you didn't pull both at once).
