Aloha,

I think that i have screwed some thing up. I have a 2004 ranger xlt and I was going to replace the stock stereo with a new pioneer. I could not get the wiring harness out of the stock stereo so I decided to cut the wires. Well not thinking, I forgot to disconnect the battery and had a few sparks. When I finally got the harness out, I reattached it to the cut wires using "Posi" connectors. I then attached it to the correct harness and wired that to the stereo harness. The new stereo will not turn on. I found a blown stereo fuse in the SJB but replaced it and still nothing. I think I now want to connect the stereo harness to the ford wires but nothing looks familiar as far as the colors go. I have seen a few diagrams but I am still confused. Is anyone willing to say...Yellow wire from harness goes to _________in the ford. And so on. I also noticed in the diagrams there are 3 grounds. do all of make 1 connections? I am tired

howzit. i'm basing my reply on the following diagram:

i'm not intimately familiar with any specific make/model of radio, but in my experience most will have 2 power wires. one is always hot, to keep the time and presets in the memory. the other is a keyed hot wire to do the actual operating when you turn on the radio. the lt gr/vio is the one to hook up to your always hot wire on your pioneer and for the keyed power use the blk/pnk wire. but before i committed the time to make the connection i would check to make sure those wires actually have power to them. maybe check with the key in the off, acc, and run positions.

the three ground wires, 1 blk and 2 blk/lt grn i would think could be used to connect any ground wires sticking out of your pioneer to make a professional looking install, instead of using a bolt that holds a panel on the dash.

i'm sure by now you're not so tired and figured out what you needed to know, soooooo...

what i would do is just find 2 nice hot wires on the fuse box, a couple of things like the horn and taillight circuits, plug in and keep that stereo juiced up all the time. checking for power with the key in 3 different positions? yeah, right!!! i'm usually doing this kind of thing in the middle of a windy night with the occasional "windward and mauka showers" passing through while in a nice "bent back cramping fingers" yoga position with a shifter or hand brake supporting 2 or 3 ribs. add a dingdingdingding to the mix while checking with the key in the ignition and SNAP!

sounds kind of caveman style but if you keep it neat it can look professional. the last one i installed in my daughters car looked pretty decent( both from the the dash and wiring perspectives.). i even made the wires long enough to pull the stereo out and rest it on a safe spot while putting in the plug and antenna.

wow, i don't know where all that^^^^^^^^^^^^^ came from.

but it reminds me i gotta go remove her stereo cause some a$$hole did a rearend hit and run on her a couple weeks ago.
