I dropped a socket down behind engine and I believe it fell thru one of the two holes in the top of the bellhousing on my M5od tranny. I removed inspection plug but cannot reach in very far and my magnet wont sweep very far in there. Can I gain any more access by removing the starter? I turned motor over with socket on main pulley and don't hear the socket, but that doesn't mean it's not laying in the bottom of the bellhousing behind the flywheel. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dan

Been there & done that when changing my trans & dropped one of the bolts. Ford really put those vents in the wrong spot. Anyways, I already had the starter off & I just took a strong extending magnet & went in through the starter hole. Took a little fishing to find but wasn't hard. Pretty much impossible to get out any other way though.

I would think the inspection plate should be better, the starter hole is partially blocked by the flywheel and in theory gravity should take the socket to the bottom
