Hello fellow ranger lovers im new to this site my name is Andrew...I have a 1994 2.3 5 speed Ranger recentely ive been going through troubles with it. seems lots of people have similar problems too. Here's the problem...ill start it up and almost immediately idle surges take place jumping to about 1800 rpm then dropping to 500-600 rpm then back and forth until it warms up. it doesnt die out but, until i let it warm up idle is erratic. Thats the first problem, the second is once ive driven it around and shut it off and if i go to start it back up while the engine still warm it wont start until it cools down a little bit im totally confused on this one. I had a problem before a few weeks ago involving the fuel pump circuit being open code 543 i replaced the inertia switch and the relay the problem was solved but things were still wrong in other areas. if you need to know any specific details about any replacements or modifications ive done just ask. Im hoping someone knows what this is or have had similar problems because this sux. any help, advice, and technical assistance is greatly appreciated. thank you for your time.

pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulater and see if there is any fuel in it. punctured fpr diaphrams are not that uncommon and can cause similar problems.

Good one^^^

Might try cleaning the IAC, they like to gum up and stick. It controls idle. If the idle doesn't change when you take the connector off of the IAC, it is bad.

Hot no start, try turning the key to run, hear the fuel pump run, then Off, repeat 2 or 3X, THEN crank the starter. If that works, keep doing that or replace the fuel pump (its check valve may be stuck open) or some people have replaced the fuel filter and fixed that. I can see that if the FF was seeping.

hey thanx for your help guys. ill check the Idle Air Control to see if theirs a problem and check the voltages getting to some of the other componets to see if theyre getting the right amount of juice. I did suspect the Fuel Pump may be going bad im just not sure. I have replaced my fuel filter about 2 weeks ago just for general maintanence i didnt have a problem following that. im gonna try your suggestions and see whats up...
