I have a 84 Ranger 2wd with a blown 2.0I-4 The transmission is a standered 4 spd.

What I would like to do is replace with a 2.8 V-6.

I dont want to convert to fuel injection as my truck is set up for a carburated engine.

If I change my 2.0 to a V-6 would it bolt to my bell houseing or would I need to change it?

Thanks

no the 4 cyl and v6 have different patterns. it would also be an upgrade to find an m5od to swap in for an extra gear

OK so I could change the bell houseing on my 4spd to the one that will fit the V-6.

Is the m5od a manuel transmission? sorry no up on everything.

if the bell housing comes off you can change it and yes the m5od is a 5 speed manual

The M5od is the 5spd manual that became the only ranger manual in 1988, and it's still being used in the brand new trucks. One thing about this manual is that it does not have a removeable bell housing.

So if you wanted to do the 2.8/2.9 swap you would need to go to the junkyard and get a transmission from behind a 2.9 or a 4.0
