Have a clunk in the rear end of my ranger. Put in new U-joints a while back thinking that was it, but wasn't the case. Lately it's been getting worse. Clunks in almost every gear when I upshift. Also is very jerky in first gear and sometimes second. It's very annoying to pull away from a stop sign because of how jerky it can be. Sometimes it will be smooth, other times it feels like you're on a bull. I just want to get an idea of what I will be getting into when I tear this apart in the next couple of weeks and see what everyone on here thoughts might be. I'm not exactly sure what the root of the problem is, and I just wanted to get some feedback. I attached a video of just going back and forth from reverse to first gear to show the play and noise. ALSO, I wasn't dumping the clutch hard even though it looks like it, I was letting it out fairly slow.

Dieselkemp:

Does it have have an open or ls differential?

Lsd with worn plates will allow the spider gears to 'shift' as the play in the system is taken up before you start moving...

Do you have a two piece shaft? The steady bearing or slip joint can cause the same symptoms.
