help ranger wont start

88 ranger 2wd 2.0 carb this morning i drove to work and went to back up and load some stuff and it stalled and wont start... its getting fuel and it only sparks when i first hit the key and when i let off the key nothing in between... anyone know the problem

i would check spark plug wires, cap and rotor button.

what about the coil?

Did you check the timing belt or the belt tentioner? Sorry I cant spell.

its in the ignition not the timing belt

make sure both wires are in the coil pack good.. mine slipped out and it would crank fine but wouldn't start..

my 302 did that except it just died going down the road

it was the coil

if it only pops when you hit the key that is where i start rather than chasing all of the wires going to everything
