I Think I've read every thread started on the idea, but seem to get some mixed feelings on the subject.
I have a 2002 XLT 2WD WITHOUT power windows or locks. I would LOVE power locks, and LIKE power windows. Meaning, it would be great to have both, and that is my preference, although I could settle with just electric door locks. I eventually want to end up with an alarm/key less entry so it is a must.

There are tons of kits out there, some expensive, some in-expensive. I found door actuators for 12$ a piece locally, and see them online from 12-70 bucks a piece. I've read a few members complain of malfunctioning/slow locks/difficulty mounting, and that is kinda a scary thought to me. I don't want to rip everything apart, only to do it again.

What I would like to do, is go OEM, that is my preference. They worked great in my previous explorer, and this is the application it's designed for. That way, I could just bolt in the motor/actuators rather than fabricating some kinda mounts to hold them down.

One of the threads I read it said
"any truck 2k1 or newer will already be pre-wired for windows, locks, and mirrors."
Found here: http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1559&highlight=electric+door+locks

Is this legit? If so, gutting a rangers door from craigslist/junkyard..etc pulling out the hardware and connecting them to my door I have do the trick?
(I know I would have to change door panels, switches.. etc.)
Does anyone know?

Oh! and what years would the actuators interchange with my 2002? I've gotten mixed signals on that too. The look of the door panel has changed over time but since 03? I Think, they look more like mine? I don't know , thats why Im here! Please help!

search for exact same year parts its better that way, i used 03 parts in my 99 for the pw and was a pita to make fit, as for the pl, u will have to replace the hole door locker, the thing that secures the door latch in the cab. im going to add pl to mine soon and im going for universal actuators, its easier to drill a hole to secure the actuator that replacin the hole latch, with some patience they can be fitted and make em work without issues. i dont know if the truck already has the wiring, its xlt, so maybe its ready hope it does, but still u have to find out if the gem module is there, cuz without it u wont be able to operate your power stuff, mine has no gem so my pw are hooked up with a ford relay to the acc position in the key, that way when using the radio i can be able to operate em, and of course with the truck running, only down side is that u dont get the auto down feature and the delay that allows u to operate the windows with the key OFF until u open the doors.
the door panels: as long as its the same color is good to go panels work from 95-09 in base models or xlt(each on his own )
hope it helps

RSH did the window conversion if im not mistaken right? I prefer the maneul windows and locks. I will never have a busted window motor and my truck wont lock ME out

u say u like manual cuz u dont have the nerve to make em work.........ooooouuuchh!!!

no man just jking:icon_rofl:
yeah those are some inconveniences, but working without gem is good imo, that way is just the relay, the switch and the power motor, so simple connection= simple working, just a basic circuit compared to a gem module.
for the locks...u always have your key, i always carry a spare one on my wallet, and since i dont have antitheft works fine:D
trust me once u try power u dont want to go back

i converted a 2000 dakota quad cab to power windows,(doorlocks are easy) i got the window motors and regulators from a salvage yard for 200 bucks. then i wired em all myself. each window works off the master switch, and they all each individually work off the own seperate switch. i used over 150ft of wire that night. thats alotta wiring. so i would get motors, switches and regulators at a yard and wire em up. specially since its only 2 doors, i had four to do. then for window locks. its two power wires for the switch to the lock mechanism. thats easy.

ooo, i want to do my power locks , hope soon!! and im planning to do it myself, i kinda like power mirrors, but thats a bit more difficult, so im ok with mine :D

power mirrors- replace mirro, get the switch to go with them, and wire em up.

My last ride was power windows and locks. Only the passenger window and sunroof rolled down(4 door honda accord). And it locked as soon as you shut the door no matter what.
