HELP PLZ, 88' 2.9 cylinders not all firing

I have a problem with the 2.9, when first starting the motor it runs great. After driving it for a lil it starts to miss bad then goes away then misses more and seems like it starts running on 4 or 5 cylinders, and its eating up gas more, the oil light pops on and off but it has oil. After parking it and letting it sit for like ten mins it runs better then goes back to running like crap.

can anybody give me an idea wat to look for or wat the problem may be? would like to know asap considering it my DD.

when you say it starts up fine, you mean cold start???

when it warms up the vehicle goes into closed loop and starts adjusting for all sorts of things.... you could have a few bad injectors that aren't letting enough fuel into the cylinder or atomizing it enough where it goes to the O2 sensor and makes it think there is a but load of fuel going in and leans out the mix which would mess everything else up......

but that's just one off the wall idea.... you should think about electrical if it happens when it goes into closed loop.

thats kinda what i initially thot but i wasnt real sure, and i didnt know how to check for something like that, the fuel filter was changed today but currently outa gas cuz the gauge is all messed up so it dnt read right. Tomorrow getting gas for and then driving it to see what it does, if it still acts up ill look into what ur saying...thanks

Ok so after getting gas in it, the truck sputters n cuts outs while driving...if you ease into the gas it doesnt do it at all rly but if u give a lil more gas it bogs out like its flooding or something.
parts changed:
spark plugs n wires
cap n rotor
fuel filter
intertia switch
pcv valve

Anybody have any ideas whats next? a local mechanic said something bout the distributor but idk how to tell considering its a tight fit back there u know...

not sure about the distributer... the whoyacontrolthingy on the back could be bad.... I'm having a brain fart on it's name right now......

other than that, I can't see the distributor being bad... it takes an act of god to break one of these things... it's tucked away in a safe spot.

Pull codes, it will point you in some sort of direction, after doing all of the tuneup stuff and still having the problem still occuring. It is a sensor problem, pull codes...

just throwing this out there... cud the map sensor b bad? and how do i pull codes?

there are instructions for doing so in the tech library.

Ok so you have done everything that i have done in my 89 ranger and i ended up going and getting another motor cause i had some internal problems not sure what but anyways come to find out it was a fuel pump that was bad.

ok i read the instruction in the library but where are the self test connectors

generally red in color....looks abit like a house shaped (reminds me of a over sized monopoly game piece)...on the passangerside fender inner back towards the hood hinge and firewall....sometimes they fall down a bit and you have to dig to get to them
