Help Please.

Blowed the engine in my 2000 Ford Ranger. It was a 3.0 V-6 lasted a long time. Now Im going to convert to a V-8 out of a 2000 ford explorer. The explorer transmission is a 4x4 and I have a 2 wheel drive truck. Can I convert this trans to a 2 wheel drive set up?

I don't think it's possible...you will need to find the correct transmission in 2wd format to match the support positions and not having to worry about the transfer case in the mix...

The supports for the transmission and transfer case are in different positions...essentially...so where the transmission bolts to the cross member would be different...I suppose you could fabricate some sort of securing method but...why go to that added work ?

Technically, I think you can use a 4wd transfer case for 2wd operation...drive shaft would have to be changed with one from the 4x4 for the rear and figure out some way of preventing the t-case of shifting into 4wd...even though there would be a free wheeling thing happening since you wouldn't have a front drive shaft...

Converting the trans to 2wd requires complete disassembly of the trans and replacement of the output shaft.

It would be much less work to just let the t-case go along for the ride.

f you remove the shift motor , and shift the 1354 into 2 wd, It will stay in 2wd. In fact, when I shift the Rat into 4wd and run around with the hubs unlocked, it will shift itself into 2wd.
